James Johansen (he/him)
James Johansen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and an AASECT- Certified Sex Therapist (CST). He is currently completing a doctorate degree in Human Sexuality at Widener University.
In 2020, James founded Modern Sex, an organization dedicated to being a resource for LGBTQ+ people. James engages through a trauma-informed approach, shaped by decades of social advocacy, academic education, and therapeutic work with the LGBTQ+ community. James has worked with a number of evidence-based modalities and practices cultural humility with issues that impact LGBTQ+ mental and sexual health.
His work with LGBTQ+ identities has compelled him to examine and discuss the impact of religious gaslighting and other forms of violence on our internal sense of self and how we relate to the world. James sees religious violence and other forms of spiritual warfare as a critical component to competently addressing LGBTQ+ mental and sexual health.
In addition to serving the LGBTQ+ community, James is an advocate for all relationship structures that work for people, including those outside mononormativity. James frequently works with polyamorous and non-monogamous identified people.
